Establishing a love of books and reading from an early age is extremely important in a child’s development in terms of their cognitive function and their emotional and social development. We have explored the benefits of reading and developing an enjoyment out of reading can have on children and have put together a few ideas on how you could make story time more fun!

Keeping up with reading during the summer holidays can be tricky, with many parents, carers and tutors noticing a ‘dip’ in their children’s reading ability while they’re away from school. That’s why every year, Libraries all across Leicestershire and the UK get set for The Summer Reading Challenge, an initiative that helps three quarters of a million children regain that confidence, from ages 4-11 years.
