Matthew's Story

Matthew had difficulty with maths throughout secondary school, but he wanted to exceed the C grade he was predicted at GCSE.

How did Matthew go on to excel in Maths?

After Matthew spent another term grappling with his motivation for maths, his mum found INICIO and sought help.

A naturally bright student, Matthew needed a tutor who he could connect with. Matthew took a shine to his new tutor Vita, who believed in him and encouraged him to grow and learn independently. His newfound motivation and bond with Vita helped him to achieve incredible results.

Matthew’s mum saw first-hand why 100% of parents say INICIO’s tutors are motivated and enthusiastic

“Because Matthew enjoyed his study at INICIO, his results skyrocketed. His grade for maths at Year 11 was an A-star. And with another three A-stars and two Bs on his report card, he has the motivation and enthusiasm to take him forward with his study at AS and A2-level.”

Hannah's Story

Hannah was really struggling with French, so much so that her last result was a D. She planned to drop French after Year 11.

How did Hannah go from failing to studying French and Mandarin at university?

After another difficult year with French, Hannah asked for help. She started tutoring sessions with Sarah, who quickly recognised that Hannah’s fear could be turned into her passion.

From warm, engaging one-to-one sessions with Sarah, Hannah gradually found her confidence. She also discovered a love of languages. Inspired by Sarah’s passion, Hannah thrived in the learning environment and began to excel – and not only in French. In addition to scoring an A in French, she also scored an A at GCSE maths after only six weeks of tutoring.

Hannah’s mum agrees with 100% of parents who say that their child enjoys their time at INICIO.

A more recent update on Hannah :)

"I graduated from Exeter in 2018 with a degree in Chinese and French and I have spent the last two years completing a masters in International Business at Grenoble Ecole de Management, which I just finished last month!

I have also just completed an 8-month internship in corporate development, which I did alongside my thesis.”

We love hearing what our previous students are up to and Hannah has clearly been keeping herself busy over the past few years! We're so pleased that she has continued with languages after Sarah helped her to turn her fear into her passion :)

Ellie's Story

Maths and times tables unsettled Ellie. She wanted to get help but the home tutoring wasn’t working.

How a change in environment changed Ellie’s view:

Getting help from a tutor at home wasn’t working for Ellie. After her mum talked with a friend who had a daughter attending INICIO, they decided to try tutoring away from the home environment. Thanks to the calming, positive atmosphere and progressive learning environment, Ellie loves her time at INICIO.

Because her tutor nurtured her learning with genuine interest, Ellie discovered that learning the times tables can be an enjoyable, interesting and easy experience.

Ellie’s mum recommends INICIO to others, just as 98% of other parents do

“Ellie now loves learning different ways to study maths and English, including using Apple Mac computers, and regularly hears praise and encouraging words. She enjoys feeling grown-up in the relaxed, creative environment.”

A more recent update on Ellie :)

Ellie has been studying maths and geography GCSE for the past year and is hoping to go on to do geography at A-level, in which case she'll be back for some more tuition!

"Ellie really enjoys her sessions, she feels that she is treated equally and is not afraid to fail. She knows that it’s a safe environment to admit that she doesn’t understand because she will be given the help that she needs and can spend as long as it takes to truly grasp a problem. These sessions give her time, something sadly lacking at school."

How Does Your Child Learn? Take The Vark Questionnaire

We may not always be aware of it, but every one of us learns in a different way. Although some learn best from reading textbooks, others may prefer to listen to their notes, or use flashcards. At INICIO we ensure that every child, no matter how they learn, can get the most out of their education with exercises designed to suit their unique personality. But how do you find out your child’s preferred learning style, and how do you use it to their advantage?

Start their summer reading list with The Big Friendly Read

Keeping up with reading during the summer holidays can be tricky, with many parents, carers and tutors noticing a ‘dip’ in their children’s reading ability while they’re away from school. That’s why every year, Libraries all across Leicestershire and the UK get set for The Summer Reading Challenge, an initiative that helps three quarters of a million children regain that confidence, from ages 4-11 years.
